This is an electronic personal alarm that was issued to staff working in the secure unit at Fairfield Hospital around 1990, and was worn around the wrist. If the member of staff was attacked or needed help controlling a patient, one press of the soft touch button in the middle of the unit would send a signal to a central alarm within the hospital. This would sound off within the ward and hopefully help would soon be at hand.
The âTâ symbol on the unit suggests that these personal alarms were supplied by British Telecom.
