  • Item: Three Counties Asylum Codd bottle.
  • Description: In 1911, attendants were able to purchase two mineral water bottles per day at a cost of 10 shillings (approximately 50p) annually. Many deaths had occurred through typhoid from the contaminated asylum water supply and staff refused to drink from the taps, so provisions were made for a mineral water factory to be set up and supply fresh bottled mineral water.
  • Comment: Mineral water bottle with glass stopper.
