  • Item: Three Counties Hospital 1930’s nurses emergency whistle.
  • Description: 3.5 inches tall (9.5cms). Stamping reads: THE METROPOLITAIN, THREE COUNTIES HOSPITAL, J .HUDSON & CO, BARR ST. HOCKLEY, BIRMINGHAM. These whistles were carried by ward attendants in order to keep patients under control or to call for help if there was an attack or a patient was injured or sick. The whistles were used much like a football referee .The whistles would be attached to the attendants white coat by a chain and button clip.
