- Item: Three Counties Asylum staff ball programme.
- Description: This small and fragile programme gives us a glimpse into what was going on in 1914 at the Three Counties Asylum. The staff balls were very big lavish affairs with no expense spared, only the finest courses, deserts, beers, wines, spirits and entertainment were on offer to the guests. The asylum employed the best chefs and grew most of its own vegetables and fruit. It also had its own farm and dairy so fresh meat and milk were guaranteed. Carriages at midnight to escort the guests home were a must. As you can see there was plenty of dancing to be had with the asylum orchestra playing all the music. No wonder they had a one hour interval, probably to dine and recover! A rare and fascinating artefact, donated by Molly Jennings.
